Now that it’s spring, it’s time to dust off those party hats and get to hosting! Here at Zokos, we want to make sure that you have all of the tools you need to throw a great party.  One of the keys to a great party though is a good idea.  If you invite your friends to a party at the park, they’ll be interested, but if you invite them to a sweet scavenger hunt party in the park, they won’t miss it!  Here are some ideas to give your spring parties a little bit of extra buzz.  Enjoy!

1. Progressive Party
This best part about this classic party idea is that it’s not just one party, its a bundle of parties all rolled into one day.  The basic idea is to get a group of folks who all live pretty close to each other and then have each person prepare one dish.  The whole party marches from one place to the next as the day/night goes on and gets to enjoy not only the change of scenery, but the chance to digest a bit in between courses.

2. Tasting Party
This tried and true party is a great way to spice up a regular old get together without much added effort.  Choose something you and your friends like, whether it is cheese, beer, or food from a particular region, and then orient your party around that theme.  If you are going to curate the selection of tasting samples (ie go out and buy all the cool stuff),  it probably makes sense to have your friends chip-in to help you cover the cost.  That way you can buy some excellent products that you and your friends normally wouldn’t splurge on.  Warning, if you are doing a scotch tasting, make sure you also serve food!  Scotch + empty stomachs = woosie guests.

3. Garden Party
Now that it is spring, why not plant a garden?   Whether your garden is a few pots of herbs on the window sill or a big vegetable production, planting your garden is a great excuse for a party.  Planting a garden can be a pain in the neck by yourself though, so why not get a crew together to make it fun.  You can celebrate the changing of the season by serving newly available fruits and veggies, and maybe even get your friends to do a little work before they eat!

4. Slow Cooked Anything Party
One of the most stressful things about hosting a party is wondering if the food will turn out alright.  Well, if you’ve ever used a slow cooker (also called crock pot) you know how easy it makes cooking.  The basic idea is, throw a big hunk of meat and some amazing spices into the crock pot in the morning, let it cook for 10 ish hours and viola around dinner time, you have tender delicious meat.  It may seem too good to be true, but it really is that easy.  Anyway, building a dinner party around brisket, carnitas or another tender yummy meat is easy – once you have the main ingredient the rest all falls into place.  For a list of slow cooker recipes, check this out!

5. Dinner Party Murder Mystery
Another way to engage your guests at your dinner party is to play a murder mystery game.  The basic idea is that over the course of your party, you role play with your guests and try and figure out which one of your party guests is the murderer.  Depending on how elaborate you want to go, you can download ideas from the internet for free, or even buy packages where a whole game is shipped to you in advance!
